Sir John Peace


Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration in recognition of his significant contribution to the civic and commercial life of the City and County and to the governance and leadership of Nottingham Trent University.

The son of a Nottinghamshire coal-miner, John Peace went on from school to the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.  When he left, he began his business career with GUS plc, then known as Great Universal Stores, and rose to became Group CEO in 2000. During that time he co-founded the pioneering CCN Systems, now Experian plc, supplying data and analytical tools to clients in over 90 countries.

He served on the Board of Governors of NTU from 1997 to 2011, including 10 years as Chairman. He chairs the leading international banking group Standard Chartered plc, and is non-executive chairman of the Burberry Group. He serves as Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and chairs the Nottingham Economic Growth Board. He was knighted in 2011.
