Sir Bryan Carsberg, former Director General of Oftel and the Office of Fair Trading

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration in recognition of his influential role in the development of the surveying profession.

Sir Bryan CarsbergA qualified chartered accountant, Sir Bryan began his career in public office over 20 years ago after holding posts of academic distinction, including Professor of Accounting at both the University of Manchester and the London School of Economics. For more than 40 years, Sir Bryan has made a wide-ranging and far-reaching contribution to learning, the professions and public affairs. His career has been distinguished by his strenuous endeavours to ensure that consumer interests are at the heart of all policy-making and reforms.

He has made a considerable contribution to the instigation of change within the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Most recently he undertook an extensive review of the residential property market. His final report called for the establishment of a regulatory body to oversee estate and letting agents and recommended that the government's controversial 'Home Information Packs' should no longer be compulsory because they have failed to improve the home-buying process.

As a university which offers a strong portfolio of RICS-accredited courses, NTU recognises the substantial role Sir Bryan has played in shaping the future of the surveying profession. His work in this field is acknowledged by both staff and students alike to be of great national and international significance.
