Queen’s Fire Service Medal for Frank
3 January 2014
Alumnus Frank Swann (MSc Public Services Management 2006) is celebrating after receiving the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in the New Year’s Honours List.
The Queen's Fire Service Medal (QFSM) is awarded to members of the fire services in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth of Nations for distinguished service. Frank said: “I’m so honoured to be receiving the QFSM as it is the highest accolade for someone within the Fire & Rescue Service Community. It is most certainly the highlight of my career.”
Frank began his career with the fire and rescue service in 1982 and has been the Chief Fire Officer at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service since 2007. He puts his “thoroughly enjoyable career” down to the fact that no two days are the same.
However, Frank is now planning his retirement. He says: “I am going to enjoy spending more time with my family… and my wife says I can do more gardening!”
We are also proud that fellow alumnus and firefighter Daniel Wareham (BSc Hons Multimedia 2006) from Stockhill Fire Station in Nottingham was awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal in 2012 for his actions following a major gas explosion at a house which destroyed the property and left two people seriously injured.
