IoD £10 Business Challenge
30 August 2017

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and the Institute of Directors (IoD) are once again running the £10 Business Challenge, and we are looking for mentors to get involved.
We are looking for company owners, directors and managers with a minimum of five years' business experience to support a group of NTU students through the challenge, which raises money for the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre - a unique purpose-built scientific facility in the East Midlands. Their aim is to save lives and speed recovery by improving the early diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
For the challenge, students are split into small teams and each group is given £10. Using their entrepreneurial skills, the challenge for the teams is to grow the amount as much as possible. Each group works with a mentor who provides their advice and expertise.
As part of the scheme, the students are also given student membership to the IoD, which allows them to attend a range of educational and networking events, and also to access a variety of professional services.
Last year, students raised over £13,000.
As a mentor your role will include tasks such as networking with and engaging your group, as well as providing feedback on their ideas. You can be involved with the students as little or as much as you want, but you will need to confirm that you have had some ongoing communication with your group. After the initial planning session, contact with the students can be face-to-face, over the phone, or via Skype.
