Congratulations to alumna Frances Quinn (BA Hons Textile Design 2006) who won this year’s Great British Bake Off! She was in "complete and utter shock" after beating Kimberley and Ruby in last night’s final.

The TV show is the ultimate baking battle where passionate amateur baking fans compete to be crowned the UK’s Best Amateur Baker. The series has followed the trials and tribulations of the competitors as they attempted to prove their baking prowess. The final challenge was to create a show stopping three-tiered wedding cake in only six hours. Frances’ cake consisted of ginger and rhubarb, lemon sponge and raspberries and a third tier of carrot, orange, pistachio and apricot covered with edible confetti impressing the judges not only with the way it looked but also with how great it tasted.

Frances has been working as a Children's Clothes Designer in Leicestershire whilst the series has been aired. She said: "I've been back at work and trying to keep a poker face!".

Throughout the show, Frances has been praised for her stylish baking creations, from her Secret Squirrel Cake in episode one to her A Midsummer Night’s Dream inspired wedding cake in the final. All her bakes have been creative, quirky and full of flair and it was her style and design qualities that won her the fourth series. She said: "I don't know what the future is going to hold but it does excite me. What I'd love to do is combine both passions - baking and design."
