A new beginning

John van Geest Cancer Research CentreStephen DixonIt's always interesting at this time of year to think about freshers just beginning their NTU life. So much for them to explore and learn, but they probably don't realise that they're starting a life long journey with their university.

For them, this is just “Freshers Week” - and a new adventure. Once they're established in a career a few years down the line they'll hopefully come to realise the importance of their time in Nottingham and feel that family connection that we all have as alumni of NTU.

Part of that connection is helping the university once you've left and in my last blog I talked about mentoring, but giving financially is also a crucial part.

Help can be given to the Alumni Fund, which funds a range of projects for students, or you can give to the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre which is based on the Clifton campus. It's a ground breaking research facility which is working day in, day out, to crack the cancer code and 100% of donations are used for research. Why not take a look at what they are achieving and follow them on Twitter @vanGeestcancer - I know you'll be impressed!
