Inspired by NTU
30 January 2013
I'm having an intercity day today. In london for lunch to mark the launch of BlackBerry 10 then up to Nottingham for a meeting about the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre (JvGCRC) on Clifton Campus.
They seem wildly different events in a way but it struck me how NTU plays into both fields.
The work at JvGCRC is critical and ground breaking - a real example of a joint venture with NTU that is leading the way and shows what a fine institution we are, doing work that will impact on all of our lives in time.
Similarly with BlackBerry and the world of technology, NTU also leads the way. I don't know if alumni are directly involved in this amazing new technology - and it IS amazing - but I know there is real work going on in the technology areas of NTU. At November's graduations I saw some alumni being honoured for their groundbreaking work in the gaming sector - and area of huge growth with a huge market, which will undoubtedly help bring our economy back on track eventually.
When I started at NTU in 1992 Broadcast Journalism was a brand new course - the first ever of its kind in the UK - and 21 years later we STILL push the boundaries, making our students ready for an ever changing, ever developing employment market.
I never fail to be inspired by what NTU, its students and its alumni achieve.
More soon.
