All Change

19 February 2012

Stephen Dixon It's been a while since my New Year blog - and a time of change for me - hence the delay in getting on here to post anything!

I recently changed jobs - not moving from Sky News, but instead changing from News at Ten to Sunrise. It might not sound much, but actually it's quite a different show to present, much lighter, chattier, easier to digest first thing in the morning, whilst still covering the big news as and when it happens.

It's also a big change in habit for me. Instead of coming off air at midnight and getting home and to bed by 0300 - I'm getting UP at 0300 and heading to London. That's something I never dreamt of doing when I was a student - in fact I can't say I relish it even now - but it's worth it. I never was one for a 9-5 job so I can't complain!

I am lucky to have a job that I love and that keeps me interested every single day - and we all know much of that is down to a good education. It opens up so many doors for us, helps us fulfill our potential, which is why we always try to encourage those younger than us not to squander the opportunities they are given. Thankfully the current students at NTU are doing brilliantly well and no wonder - the facilties they have are really superb, but with your help we can continue to improve to them.

Your financial help makes a huge difference to many areas of the University - and so if you're able to give a regular amount, however small, it is hugely appreciated.

Don't forget that you can help us in other ways too. Take a chance to make sure your details on here are up-to-date. We want to know what you're up to, who you work for, or if you're taking time out at the moment. It's great to know what all our alumni are doing - but let's be honest - I'm a journalist and I'm very nosey, so I like to know what you're all up to too!

I'm available for you 24/7 (even at 0300) at stephen.dixon@ntu.ac.uk and on Twitter @StephenDixonTV and I love it when alumni get in touch. I get to see a whole wide range of people and careers and it makes me so proud to think that NTU has put people into every walk of life.

So keep me up to date and say hello when you can. On that note, it's 19.10 on a Sunday evening, so I'm off to bed in anticipation of my alarm call - it's a glamorous showbiz life!
