Tesco has announced that NTU alumnus Dave Lewis (BA Hons Business Studies 1987 and Honorary Graduate 2002) will join its board on October 1 as chief executive officer, replacing Philip Clarke.

Dave began his career with Unilever in 1987 after his graduation. During his 28 years with Unilever – which produces brands such as Lynx, Sure and Dove – Dave held a variety of roles which took him across greater Europe, Asia and the Americas.

His last three roles were Chairman for Unilever in the UK and Ireland, President for the Americas and his current role as Global President, Personal Care.

Sir Richard Broadbent, Tesco's chairman, said: "Dave Lewis brings a wealth of international consumer experience and expertise in change management, business strategy, brand management and customer development.

"He is already known to many people inside Tesco having worked with the business over many years in his roles at Unilever.

"The Board believes that with Dave’s leadership Tesco will sustain and improve its leading position in the retail market."

Professor Baback Yazdani, Dean of Nottingham Business School, said: "We're incredibly pleased for Dave and would like to wish him all the best in his new position."

"Like many of our alumni, he's maintained his links with the University and two years ago accepted an honorary degree from us.

"It's great to see him achieve another incredible success in his career today and we look forward to inviting him back to the University in the near future."
