Why do you volunteer as an Alumni Fellow?
Giving back to my community is something I love doing. I will never forget my time in the United Kingdom, studying at Nottingham Trent University. The knowledge I gained and the experiences I had made me want to give back to current students. As an Alumni Fellow, you’re not just mentoring students - you also learn from them as well. NTU has given me so much and I see it as my duty to give back.
What volunteering activities have you been involved with as an Alumni Fellow (e.g. mentoring, guest lectures)?
I have been involved in mentoring students, which I love. Mentoring is not just about supporting students with job applications and interviews but also helping them handle situations in life and guiding them with the skills they need for the future.
What do you enjoy and find most rewarding most about being an Alumni Fellow?
I feel really proud of being an Alumni Fellow, it’s really rewarding having the opportunity to contribute to a larger community.
What do you do when you’re not volunteering?
I work as a HRIS Analyst full time with a London organisation based in India. Last year I wrote my first novel, which helped me make India’s Top 100 Debut Author List. Since graduating I have also volunteered online with UNICEF.
Have you undertaken any other volunteering as a result of Covid-19?
I have connected with people online through a Facebook community where we write or play games to support each other. Next week I will be doing online mentoring with someone based in Africa, regarding mentoring for creatives.
