MA Fine Art, 2012

Why do you volunteer as an Alumni Fellow?
I want to give back to NTU the wonderful experience I had whilst studying MA Fine Art as a student in 2012. My studies at NTU changed the direction of my life and I hope that I am able to pass on some of the enthusiasm which I have for the university.

What volunteering activities have you been involved with as an Alumni Fellow (e.g. mentoring, guest lectures)?
Over the past 6 years I have done guest lectures, been at career events, open days, helped interview NTU students and most recently took part in the global week in a practical way, by sharing my artistic experiences with two students who created sculptures.

What do you enjoy and find most rewarding most about being an Alumni Fellow?
Being a former journalist, I also really enjoy meeting people. I sometimes ask awkward questions and find this helps one get good and lively responses from students.

Do you have any advice for someone thinking about volunteering as an Alumni Fellow?
Do it! The experience is great personally and is of value to the university.

What do you do when you’re not volunteering?
I am a practising visual artist and sales of my work benefit local charities. I am also a member of the NTU choir and a trustee of ‘Music for Everyone’. I sing and act with several local companies.

Have you undertaken any other volunteering as a result of Covid-19?
I live on a Nottingham street which is very community minded and I participate in activities to support the residents.. Also being part of the ‘Music for Everyone’ we are running a lockdown choir.
