I studied for a Masters degree in Management and International Business.

To me, NTU has been a place where I found like-minded fellows, good fun, supportive faculty members and alumni, and dedicated resources. The experience opened up my perspectives about life and career and was truly precious.

I particularly benefited from the end of term consultation project for which we needed to conduct on-site visits to actual businesses, to learn about their problems and provide viable solutions. It was a great opportunity for us to utilise all the subjects we learned from the programme and have a chance to apply it all to an actual case.

I started my job-hunting a couple of months before my graduation. It was a critical time for new graduates due to the global recession. The Employability Team at NTU provided tremendous support, including strength and weakness analysis, mock interviews, CV tips etc.

I managed to secure an internship in a non-profit social enterprise which eventually led me to my current employment with a boutique Immigration Practice with presence in Asia. I am now still working for this firm, leading the team in Hong Kong and being responsible for APAC market.

I never would have imagined myself working in an Immigration Practice. All the knowledge and skills I learned from the NTU Masters programme, such as Finance & Accounting, HR, and IT, turned out to be tremendously helpful to my current job though because it takes an all-rounder to manage the operation and lead a team. More importantly, it taught me to think critically and analyse problems thoroughly and these skills prove to be useful in any future corporate career.

My experience with NTU didn’t end in the summer when I graduated though. I subsequently joined the NTU Alumni group in Hong Kong and I am now on the committee for alumni social events. It is truly amazing that you can continue your NTU experience even after completion of your studies, and I highly recommend all alumni to join your local alumni group for more opportunities to network with other like-minded fellows.

My top tip for the Class of 2020 in one sentence:
Stay open to opportunities. Do not stay in your comfort zone and limit yourself – you never know what lies ahead and the best is yet to come.
