Nicholas Crane - Geographer, writer and broadcaster

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Hon DSc) in recognition of his outstanding services to public knowledge about the environment and sustainable development.

Nicholas Crane
As a geographer, Nicholas Crane is a prolific communicator and an important contributor to public knowledge about the environment and sustainable development.

He is tireless explorer, walker, cyclist and mountaineer, and also a journalist, award-winning author and seasoned broadcaster. He has presented such programmes as Map Man, Coast, Great British Journeys and the four-part Town that explored Scarborough, Ludlow, Perth and Totnes. 

He has walked 10,000 km across the mountains of Europe from the Atlantic to the Black Sea.

Among several honours, Nicholas received the 1992 Mungo Park Medal of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society jointly with his travelling companion and cousin Richard, for their journeys across Tibet, China, Afghanistan and Africa.
