Mr Adrian Jones, Former Director of Planning, Transport and Highways for Nottingham City Council

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Design in recognition of his nationally renowned work in the successful integration of planning, transport, highway design, urban design and conservation.

Adrian JonesOriginally joining the City Council in 1975 as Conservation Officer, Mr Jones was promoted to a series of strategic planning and transport posts and spearheaded a range of imaginative projects from the award-winning regeneration of the Old Market Square to far-reaching transport plans. His emphasis on developing people-friendly places has marked hiim out as one of the nation's most creative, motivated and innovative planners. Developments such as the award-winning tram system and an innovative bus strategy earned the city of Nottingham the 'Transport Authority of the Year' title.

Adrian Jones has set new standards for the way planning and transport can be integrated effectively, with landmark projects which have re-invigorated the city and improved local people's quality of life. Among his many achievements was the establishment of an acclaimed integrated planning, transport and highways service which has attracted numerous government accolades and a city centre masterplan which has provided the framework for a network of pedestrian-dominated streets and public spaces.

An alumnus from the Polytechnic era, he has a longstanding association with the University, and has lent his expertise and support to various projects, including the ambitious plans currently underway to create a vibrant new heart for the city campus.
