Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Education (DEd) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to children's education, health and other services.

Under the 2004 Children's Act, Parliament created a commission to review and improve children's services, including ways for young people to contribute more to decisions that affect their lives. Leading the way was Sir Al Aynsley-Green, former National Clinical Director for Children at the Department of Health. He has broad experience of clinical and academic work, administration and policy development, through previous posts at Oxford and Newcastle Universities, University College, London, Great Ormond Street Hospital and with government departments.

After his five-year term as Commissioner, Sir Al is an international consultant, held in high regard by practitioners, public officials and politicians. He sums up his role as being "on the side of children and to speak up for them". He was knighted for his work with children in 2006.
