Alumna Amy is “gem of Gem 106”

Amy VoceAmy Voce (BA Hons Communication Studies 2005) and Sam Pinkham are celebrating after winning “Music Radio Personality of the Year” at the 2014 Radio Academy Awards.

Sam and Amy, who present the Breakfast Show on East Midlands’ Gem 106, were the only regional show to be shortlisted for the prestigious award and beat fellow alumnus Christian O’Connell (BA Hons Communication Studies 1995), Chris Evans and Graham Norton who were nominated in the same category.

On accepting the award Amy said: “Oh crumbs! This is really awkward, because our heroes are in this category.”

The judges said: “An equal partnership, dripping with honest, vivid, natural and laugh-out-loud story telling. Generous, warm, inventive, entertaining, and in Amy they've found the gem of Gem 106."

Sam and Amy also scooped bronze in the local category for Breakfast Show of the Year whilst another NTU alumnu Christian O’Connell (BA Hons Communication Studies 1995) won a record-breaking eleventh Gold Award this year for "Best use of Branded Content".
