Priya hosts India Community Project for NTU

12 November 2019

Staff from Nottingham Trent University have been involved in a community project during a recent visit to India, with the support of alumna Priya Patil (MA Fashion and Textiles 2004).

NTU International Development Office Director David Bailey, Senior Regional Manager Mirza Mujic, Country Adviser Rishi Pokar and Regional Adviser Shruti Jaggi hosted the community project with Priya’s help at Bharat Jatiya Sangh’s Seth Bhajalal Rohra English School in Mumbai, during October.

Priya led a workshop where the students learnt to make a purse out of cloth pieces and then decorate it. Priya said: “It was an awesome experience to be part of the community project. There is nothing more encouraging and edifying than when you get the opportunity to share your knowledge and creativity with society. To see the school children happy made me happy.”

Priya has seen success since graduating from NTU and now works as a celebrity fashion designer. Her recent work has involved styling TV stars, including Indian megastar Amitabh Bachchan as he hosts ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ – India’s version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

There are many Indian International students who come to study at Nottingham
Trent University in the UK and NTU’s International Development Office is keen to
support Indian Municipal and Government Schools, and engage with students
by hosting interactive events.
