Alumnus Dan Clover produces PPE for frontline workers in COVID-19 response

4 June 2020

Daniel Clover (BSc Hons Quantity Surveying 2018) has responded to the global COVID-19 pandemic by making hundreds of PPE visors for frontline workers.

He bought a 3D printer recently for a personal venture, to create a prototype for an invention he has designed and is seeking to patent around preventing misfuelling at petrol stations.

However, he put this project on hold and has instead been using his skills and resources to help in the national effort against COVID-19.

Dan, who currently works for Mansfield District Council’s design services team, has received support from other local owners of 3D printers, as well as collaborating with staff at Vision West Notts College and Samworth Academy, who have also been using their printers to help make visors.

Dan’s efforts also received a funding boost from Mansfield’s Mayor’s 500 fund, who donated £500. This allowed him to buy a second 3D printer and double the number of visors he can produce.

As visors now start to become more available in the usual supply chains, Dan urges people to only purchase PPE items from reputable suppliers, with the correct British standards and certification.

We thank Dan for his contribution to his community and wish him the best of luck with his future project.
