Honorary Degree of Doctor of Law in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the conduct of international environmental law and his commitment and support for legal education.

A leading figure in environmental law and product litigation, Paul Bowden also served 12 years as chair of the Nottingham Law School at NTU, making a significant contribution its development.

As a partner with Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer, he handles London dispute resolution and global corporate responsibility. Paul is also co-head of the firm’s low carbon team and has appeared in multi-party actions and judicial reviews relating to the electricity, nuclear, transport and consumer products sectors. He is programme leader of the Nuclear Energy Agency’s International School of Nuclear Law in Montpellier.

A firm believer that access to justice should be available to all, he served on the Multi Party Action Working Group in Lord Woolf’s Review of Civil Justice in England and Wales.
