Margaret Atkinson - Former Children's Commissioner for England and Founder / CEO of Maggie Atkinson Consulting
Honorary Degree of Doctor of Education in recognition of her significant contribution to the rights of the child in the UK and enforcing the obligations of all agencies to empower, support and protect the child.
Dr Maggie Atkinson’s extensive career has included working for children and young people, education, the government and now running her own limited company.
At the beginning of her career, Maggie taught English and drama at secondary school, becoming the Head of English, before working on a national curriculum English language initiative. Maggie then went on to hold a series of education based positions in training, inspection and school and service improvement for a number of local governments including Birmingham City, Cheshire, Liverpool and Gateshead.
Maggie is most notably renowned for her position as the Children’s Commissioner for England, a post that she held between 2010 and 2015, which enabled her to promote and protect the rights of children and young people. Maggie’s career took a turn in July 2016 when she founded Maggie Atkinson Consultancy which specialises in management consultancy, executive and non-executive work.
