Mrs Janet Mills MBE

HonMA in recognition for her work in shaping the strategic direction of the Department of Work and Pensions and in engaging regional policy-makers with the implications of demographic ageing.

Janet Mills MBEIn a public service career spanning over 30 years, Janet Mills has – with her customary drive and determination – helped enhance the quality of services, especially for vulnerable groups.

Her pioneering approach to ‘joined-up working’ – collaborations between public and voluntary sector partners to deliver seamless services – has set national standards and her commitment to welfare reform in deprived communities was recognised with an MBE.

As Service Delivery Manager with The East Midlands Local Pension Service, Janet liaises with local authorities and the voluntary sector to develop integrated holistic services that support older people. A leading proponent of evidence-based policy research, she has worked extensively with NTU to analyse the challenges in meeting the needs of an ageing population. This has helped create a powerful regional policy network under the banner of East Midlands Tomorrow.
