David Hopkins – International expert in School Improvement

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Education (HonDEd) in recognition of his significant contribution to education and school improvement.

Early in his career, David Hopkins was an outward bound instructor, schoolteacher and university lecturer.

During the 1990s, while professor and Dean of Education at the University of Nottingham, he was very influential in the field of new approaches to improvement through his work with schools in Nottinghamshire, and was part of the team that successfully bid to locate the National College for School Leadership in the city.

He has served three government Education Secretaries as Chief Adviser on School Standards and Director of the Standards and Effectiveness Unit. He is an emeritus professor of the London Institute of Education, where he held the inaugural chair in International Leadership 2005-09. He is the author of nearly 50 books on education and has inspired ongoing work by NTU staff.
