What is the Telephone Campaign?
The Telephone Campaign is run by the Annual Giving Team in the Development and Alumni Relations Office with the specific objectives of promoting the Alumni Fund, updating our alumni on upcoming events, publications and appeals, and answering any questions alumni may have. The calls are made by current students of Nottingham Trent University.

Do all alumni receive a telephone call?
We have approximately 126,000 alumni in our database. Annually approximately 5,000 alumni are called by our students.

What areas can I give to through the Telephone Campaign?
The telephone campaign primarily collects donations for the Alumni Fund, Scholarships and The John van Geest Cancer Research Centre.  The student callers can give you information about possible areas of support.

What is the Alumni Fund?
Alumni Fund projects continue to provide support that is exclusively directed towards the benefit of students in three main areas. Supporting academic achievement and excellence through new scholarships, bursaries and awards. Enhancing the learning experience by adding extra learning resources and kick-starting new opportunities for students that may not otherwise be possible.  Creating inspiring surroundings by enhancing the campus environment to ensure that NTU continues to grow as a great place to study.

What is the Scholarship fund?
The scholarship awards help students to have the best start possible in higher education, changing their lives for the better and opening new opportunities which may not otherwise have been possible.

What is the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre?
The John van Geest Cancer Research Centre is a unique purpose-built scientific facility in the East Midlands, based on the Clifton campus. Their aim is to save lives and speed recovery by improving the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a scheme set up by the UK Government that offers tax relief on money donated to UK charities, and if you are a UK taxpayer, your gift may be eligible. Nottingham Trent  University can re-claim the basic rate tax on donations from UK taxpayers provided the donor pays enough UK income tax and/or capital gains tax themselves to cover the amount of tax Nottingham Trent University will reclaim (currently £2.50 for every £10.00).

I do not wish to make a donation over the phone. How else can I donate?
We can accept donations in various ways. You can donate online at Give Now. Alternatively you can download (downloads a paper form) a paper donation form or request one from our office at 0115 848 8796 if you wish to send a cheque or a CAF voucher.

When will I receive acknowledgement of my pledge?
A letter of thanks and a receipt from any over-the-phone credit or debit card payments will be posted to you second class within three working days.

How will my donation be acknowledged?
A letter of thanks will be posted to you second class within three working days.

I didn’t receive my pre call letter, what did it say?
You should have received a copy of the letter via email or in the post. Please double check your spam folder in case it has been sent there by mistake. If you did not receive it then you can update your details on our website.

How can I request a student telephone call?
If you would like to request a call from one of our students, please email alumni@ntu.ac.uk or telephone 0115 848 8796.

Can I call the students back?
Unfortunately you cannot call the students back. If you would like to request for somebody to call you at a convenient time, please email alumni@ntu.ac.uk or telephone 0115 848 8796.

Are the students that call always from my course?
Wherever possible the student will be from a similar course to the one you studied at NTU.  Occasionally a student may be from a different course, if the alumnus is being called back on a specific day or time at their request, or if we could not recruit any students from a similar course to yours.

Do the students get paid?
Our students get paid an hourly wage to call our alumni.

Who pays for the students to call me?
The students' pay comes out of a centrally-administered budget. None of the income generated from your donations is used to pay for fundraising at Nottingham Trent University - 100% of all the donations we receive go directly to the causes we support.

What telephone number should I expect a student phone call from?
The switchboard telephone number (0115 848 5000) will be displayed when our students call.  Please note you cannot call our student callers back directly.

On what days and at what times should I expect a telephone call?
Our students work around their studies and call Monday to Thursday from 1800-2130. We also call during the day on weekends.

Why are the students calling me?
The students are calling you because you are a former student (alumnus) of Nottingham Trent University. They wish to update you on upcoming events, to ensure your receive our correspondence and to make you aware of any current appeals.

I never graduated from NTU, so why am I getting a phone call?
You become a member of the Alumni Association automatically when your class group graduates - regardless of whether you actually completed the course, or attended your graduation. See our membership guidelines. If you would like to change this status, please contact our office on 0115 848 8777 or e-mail alumni@ntu.ac.uk

I am not a Nottingham Trent alumnus.  Why am I getting a telephone call?
You become a member of the Alumni Association automatically when your class group graduates - regardless of whether you actually completed the course, or attended your graduation. See our membership guidelines. If you would like to change this status, please contact our office on 0115 848 8777 or e-mail alumni@ntu.ac.uk

Why am I getting a telephone call in the evening?
We do not like to interrupt your working day. Our callers are all current students who have classes and lectures during the day and they carry out the calling as a part time evening job.

Why do I get a telephone call so late?
Our students telephone in the evening from 1800-2130. We have chosen these times as this seems to be the most acceptable time to call. We do not want to interrupt your working day and, as our callers are all students, they are usually busy in lectures during the day.

Why am I getting a telephone call from Nottingham Trent  on a Saturday?
Our callers are all current students who have classes and lectures during the week, so they carry out the calling as a part-time job.

Are the students just calling to ask for money?
The financial aims of the campaign are important as the money we raise goes to help a variety of important causes, but the calls are also important for our students to update you on the latest news from the University and check we have the correct contact details for you. The students really benefit from talking to alumni and hearing about their experiences.

How can I update my child’s details other than over the phone?
Please direct your child to the website where they can update their details.

How can I stop receiving telephone calls?
If you would like to opt out of receiving telephone calls, or would like to change how we contact you, please email alumni@ntu.ac.uk or telephone 0115 848 8777.
