Like father, like son

26 July 2018

Andrew and Charlie BurtAlumnus Andrew Burt (BSc Hons Urban Estate Surveying 1984) was excited to be back on campus this week… to see his son Charlie graduate into the same profession.

Charlie was originally going to study Economics, but switched his interest to Surveying after a conversation with his father:  “My Dad has enjoyed a really varied and interesting career.  Surveying is such a social profession, and I was really keen to have the opportunity to get out and about and meet new people.”

Whilst his Dad influenced his career choice, Charlie made the decision to study at NTU on his own:  “I came to an Open Day and liked it straight away. It’s my kind
of city and I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing experience. There’s a great
student community and I’ve made some friends for life”.

When Andrew graduated in 1984, our ceremonies were held in the Royal Concert Hall.  Today, Charlie will graduate in our new University Hall.

Andrew said: “It’s a proud moment to see Charlie graduating from the same University as me.  It’s great to be back on campus and see all the changes,
and I agree with Charlie – it’s a great city to be a student with lovely people
and an exciting social life.

The family connection doesn't end with NTU, Charlie did a placement year with Savills in London, who have offered him a job now that he has graduated…… and it just happens to be where his Mum and Dad first met!

Congratulations Charlie!  I hope you both keep in touch with us through the Alumni Community!
