Brent gives expert commentary at the Pyeongchang Olympics

15 February 2018

NTU alumnus Brent Pope (BA Hons Business Leisure and Sports Education 2003) is hard at work in Pyeongchang, South Korea, commentating on the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Brent is working in Pyeongchang as an Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) Global Feed Commentator, where he will be covering both Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey, the Paralympic Opening and Closing ceremonies, and the Paralympic Ice Hockey.

This is the sixth Olympic Games Brent has covered. He said: “It’s been an evolution from my UK Professional Hockey playing career. I enrolled in a training course in 1999 at the National Broadcasting Institute in Toronto after seeing an advert in the local paper. My playing career was the key and my first big opportunity came during Torino 2006 for the BBC.”

Whilst Brent feels his time at NTU was “a lifetime ago” he remembers his time at NTU fondly and asked us to give a special mention to his lecturers David Needham and Rob Dransfield on his behalf.

He added: ”You have to make life happen - it’s not a rehearsal. There is no need to snatch at opportunities, but be ready to back yourself when they come along. Fortune favours the bold!”
