7 December 2016

Team GB HockeyTwo gold medal winners in this year’s Rio Olympics are among those to receive honorary degrees from Nottingham Trent University this week.

GB Hockey Team players and NTU alumni Crista Cullen (BA Hons Business Studies 2007) and Hannah Macleod (PhD 2009) will collect their honorary degrees at the ceremony this Friday in recognition of their contribution to sport.

Widely recognised as one of the best hockey defenders in the world, Crista was instrumental in helping the GB Women’s Hockey Team pick up Gold in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Crista’s teammate Dr Hannah Macleod has over 150 caps with England and Great Britain. She also competed at the London 2012 Olympics and she now runs her own nutrition consultancy service for athletes, business and schools.

Former international cricket and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club player Graeme Swann will also receive recognition on the day, along with Nottingham-born comedian and screen writer, Henry Normal.

Professor Edward Peck, Vice-chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, said: “Our ceremonies are a fantastic opportunity to congratulate graduating students on their hard work and to inspire them in their careers going forward. Our honorary graduates – all of whom have strong connections to the city or the University – demonstrate the results of ambition and dedication and are all inspirations in their field.”
