Alumni Fellows 2018-19

We were honoured to welcome more than 170 Alumni Fellows who are volunteering their time to support our students, at a special event on 27 September.

From mentoring to mock interviews, career talks to company visits, alumni heard about the many ways they can get involved and share their knowledge and expertise in order to expand the employability skills and facilitate the development of current students.

The Alumni Fellowship programme, now NTU-wide, mobilises more than 850 Alumni
Fellows to give thousands of hours of support across many academic disciplines
every year.

Speakers included Art and Design Alumni Fellow Rachel Butlin, and Nottingham Law School Alumni Fellow Simon Massarella, who shared how much he had enjoyed mentoring students and inviting them to experience Nottingham Magistrates’ Court, where he works. Furthermore, he said, he had gained some valuable skills himself as a result.

Debra Holliday (BSc Hons Animal Biology 2013) is looking forward to getting started.  She said: “I became an Alumni Fellow so that I could support and encourage students to be the best version of themselves”.

Students at the event had the opportunity to thank Alumni Fellows and speak about how the programme has impacted their life and personal and professional growth.

Akil Hunte, who graduated in July 2018, spoke about how being able to avail of the time and expertise of three Alumni Fellows during his studies, helped build his confidence, and had a strong positive impact on his experience as a student. So much so, that he is now an Alumni Fellow himself and keen to return the favour.

NTU Head of Alumni Relations and Regular Giving, Danielle Russell, said: “As we celebrate an incredible year at NTU, it’s great to see so many of our alumni getting involved and committed to supporting our students. We are very proud of how the Alumni Fellowship Programme has developed from 30 Alumni Fellows in Nottingham Business School four years ago to over 850 this academic year. On behalf of the University I’d like to thank everybody who has pledged their time and we’re looking forward to working with you.”
