“The Trent Tramps” Remember - Annual Golf Day 2019

16 August 2019

Sent to us by John Kornjaca:

The self-styled Trent Polytechnic RUFC Old Boys (of 1981 and beyond) – "The Trent Tramps" - held their annual golf day at the Wollaton Park GC in June 2019, with a dozen or so ‘silver tops’ getting together to contest the awards.

Years ago, the annual get together took the form of a keenly contested rugby match in Wilford against the mighty Nottingham Moderns. It was initially used to help commemorate the life of Pete Mote (BA Creative Arts), aka “the Stoat”, who had played at Trent and then at The Moderns, and who sadly died in November 1995 aged just 33.

The group also took the opportunity to fondly remember the superbly talented winger Mark Adams, aka "one of the piranha twins" (BA Accounting), and Mr Brian Head-Rapson, a former tutor at Clifton Campus and well known rugby referee, who was a keen supporter of the group.

Now, with many in the group in their mid-fifties (or older), the gentlemen concerned have wisely moved away from playing rugby to this more sedate form of competition.

Participants from around the country arrived in Nottingham for the golf day and after what can be best described as a challenging day (and evening) the results were:

TIED: Overall Champion(s): Mr Gareth Price (B.Ed PE) and Mr Matt Best (BA Law) = 29 Stableford Points

3rd Place: Mr Mark Chapman (BSc Chemistry) = 26 pts

Winner of the ‘Most Golf Played Trophy’: Mr Hubert Glynn (HND Business Studies) = 9 pts

Winner of the Brylcreem Trophy (Forwards v Backs): The Forwards.
